We had never met. We lived close enough to the water for me to know what it was, what it looked like, and how far I had to run in order to reach it. My father wasn't one of those types who would take me to the beach when I was younger. I think my father was actually afraid of the sea. Too many sea storm and giant squid stories, I guess.
Either way, my first day at the SS Matate was not a pleasant one. Actually, getting on board was not pleasant. It all started when I was running away. I grabbed some of my father's clothing, which I meant to neatly put next to his grave along with my locket with my mother's picture. That's when my home was invaded, and I just had to run off. I had to change in an alleyway. When I got to the port, I was just looking around at first. I had also never been to the port before. It was really very pretty and lively. I traded my dress, at the port, for a pair of boots.
I had asked around. Tried to get on a few boats, but most were merchant ships that weren't going to let me in or passenger ships making a pit stop. I walked into a bar, feeling completely hopeless. When this young man completely drunk out of his mind buys me a beer. I forgot I was dressed as a man (mostly because he told me I was pretty) and nearly slapped him. But before I could, he asked me if I was trying to get somewhere. I told him I was, that I needed to get to the Island of Macabee. He looked at me again and said "If you can win me a game of poker, I promise you I'll get you on a ship straight for Macble!"
So I played. And here I am now. That poor drunken sap is now my master, Cobalt Blu. In the past he was a master traveling magician. I'm sure he hasn't yet realized that I'm a woman. Actually, I don't think he even knows my name
